Why Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga?
I began my yoga journey on the mat in 2007. I knew this was a practice that I wanted to maintain and the more I learned, the more I wanted to share this experience with other people. It took me a lot of research to find a teacher training that resonated with my desire to learn more. My journey took me to Western North Carolina where I began training in the beautiful town of Black Mountain at Black Mountain Yoga. There I learned the anatomy of yoga and how poses help to heal and transform the human body.
One day we tubed down the French Broad River in Asheville, North Carolina and I saw someone paddleboarding. I always loved the water. I found a SUP Yoga class, bought a board and began training with the American Canoe Association to become an instructor. Charmaine is a Level 2 instructor with the ACA and is one of the ACA’s leaders that can endorse SUP Yoga Instructors. She has worked with other SUP Yogi’s to professionalize SUP yoga. With those accreditations, classes include focusing on the development of paddling skills and honoring the practice of yoga.
